Hotel "Astoria" enjoys a superb location in the very heart of the city, situated on St.Isaac's Square opposite the impressive St.Isaac's Cathedral, the Mariinsky Palace and the equestrian statue of Nicholas I.

The proximity of the Senate and Synod, the Admiralty, the offices of major companies and banks underline the importance of the hotel's location in the city. Hotel Astoria, one of the oldest hotels of Russia, opened in 1912, and was constructed under the supervision of architect Feodor Lidvalia during Nikolas II's reign. The hotel was opened in honour of the 300-anniversary of Romanov's House (December, 1912).

After reconstruction in 1987-1991 the hotel accepted the ex-prime minister of Great Britain, Margaret Tetcher, the state secretary of USA, James Beker, members of imperial Romanov's family, well-known Faberzhe, the conductor and composer Mstislav Rostrapovich, sculptor Michael Shemjakin, opera singers Galina Vishnevskaia and Elena Obraztsova, Gin Lollobridzhida, Ted Terner and Jane Fonda.

232 exquisite air-conditioned rooms, including 131 Standard rooms, 60 Superior rooms, 15 Junior Suits, 11 Senior Suites, 10 Deluxe Suites and Presidential Suites (5 beautiful corner two-bedroom suites, named after famous composers and musicians). From 1987 to 1991 the "Astoria" underwent major refurbishment, staying faithful to the original style of the building.

Each of the 232 rooms including apartments, suites, deluxe and standard rooms combine latter-day charm and comfort. The rooms are elegantly furnished, in keeping with the image of the hotel and are suitable both for relaxation and business. The deluxe apartments have got kitchens and saunas. Each room is well-equipped with modern facilities, including satellite and cable TV, inhouse television system, air-conditioning, international direct-dial, mini-bar and mini-safe.
